Biologically Bankrupt, A MemoirIt’s 2008 and my father has been dead for one year. At the urging of a close friend, I begin to write my story, which is really the story of three generations of my family as much as it is mine. Abuse, dysfunction, pain, sorrow, recovery, reconciliation. It’s all there, a Southern Gothic tale if ever there was one.A year after the book was published, my father visited me. Yep, for real. And he was royally pissed. Too much truth. Too much dirty laundry, too many secrets revealed. He was terrifying and I was terrified. Thank the Lord he hasn’t visited since. Maybe he’s in remedial school awaiting his next incarnation. At any rate, I remain convinced that this was a story I was called to write, more so for others than for myself. All I know is someone will read this story and realize they are not alone.
As Sick As Our SecretsSecrets is the first book in the Allison Parker Mystery Series. In it, we meet Allison and the core cast of characters who continue throughout the series.
What Comes AroundBook two in the Allison Parker Mystery series finds our protagonist in search of a sexual sadist who has left a trail of bodies across the South. Will Allison be his next victim?
Ashes to AshesMurder, mayhem, kidnapping, magic - all and more transpires in this third book in the Allison Parker Mystery series.
Suffer the ChildrenTerrorism strikes in the heart of rural America. Book four in the Allison Parker Mystery series introduces a new favorite character.
WolfBook five in the Allison Parker Mystery series takes the reader far beyond the confines of Ft. Charles, Alabama. Will Wolf Johannsen’s past catch up with him? With Allison? Who will survive?
Out of the AshesBetween 2010 and 2014 I published several hundred essays to my old website. In the summer of 2018 I decided to gather my favorites in this book, Out of the Ashes. The essays cover a wide assortment of topics - some serious, some not so much, but all carrying an interesting message for the reader.
Queen IsabellaMy rat terrier is a funny old lady. Her registered name is the title of this Folk Art pastel, but around the house she’s just plain Izzy.
Channeling AllisonThis was a fun photo shoot. Like Allison, I’m packing a Glock 19.
Practice Makes PerfectAnd like my protagonist, Allison Parker, I enjoy spending a little time getting in some practice with my favorite weapon.
Amelia Island Book Festival, 2018
BaxterMy fabulous Schnauzer rescue! Baxter and I have traveled together in other lifetimes. This time around he’s featured in one of the Allison Parker Mysteries.
Highland Books EventHighland Books in Brevard, NC is a wonderful, locally owned, independent bookstore. Its owners are great supporters of local authors. Here I am with some fellow writers at an event in March, 2018.
Highland Books TwoHere I am at Highland Books in Brevard, NC. Good fun with an interactive audience as I talked about how the stories in the Allison Parker Mystery series come to me. It’s a mystery in and of itself!
Lemuria BookstoreLemuria Bookstore in Jackson, Mississippi is a popular and well-known independent bookstore. Lemuria hosted me in 2011 after I published my memoir, Biologically Bankrupt and again in September 2018. This is a picture from the 2018 event where I am discussing some of the main characters in the Allison Parker Mystery series.
Star Line BooksLocated in my hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Star Line Books is a quaint independent bookstore right across from the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. In April 2019 I had the opportunity to speak there to a packed house. I love these events.
Maddie Gets Her WingsAnother Folk Art pastel, this one of my daughter’s sweet little pup who crossed over the rainbow bridge last year. I enjoy painting animals.
Star Line BooksTalking about characters in the series.
The Laurel of AshevilleNice publicity and article in The Laurel of Asheville highlighting Suffer the Children, book 4 in the Allison Parker Mystery series.
Meeting Kay - the narrator for the Allison Parker booksHad the great fortune to meet Kay and her friends today while they were visiting Sierra Nevada Brewery outside Asheville.
Mechanicsburg, PA Book ClubAllison Parker has fans everywhere! These ladies invited me to speak at a lunch event. Great fun discussing their favorite characters, answering questions about writing technique and inspiration. I love speaking to book clubs.
Queen IsabellaMy 8 year old Rat Terrier. She does consider herself queen of all she surveys, and all of us her adoring subjects.
The B BoyThis cuties is my love. Baxter is a rescue, mostly Schnauzer, 100% love muffin. I can’t imagine this life without him, and I’m pretty sure he and I have traveled previous lives together.
On Fire For the LordThis pastel started out as a barn, but it just didn’t sit right with me. I left it on the easel for days, working a bit here, a bit there, but never feeling like I was capturing the visual story that was trying to come out. With my animal pastels I’ve always painted the subject’s aura, so yesterday I thought, “well, let’s try it with this”. After I painted the building’s aura I realized it wasn’t a barn - it was a church. I added the cross, added its aura, and realized immediately what the title of the painting should be.
"Christmas Cat"This is Lucy, my daughter’s rescue cat. Lucy is about 8 years old. Her original owners didn’t want her after the found out they were having a baby so they put Lucy on Craig’s List to get rid of her. Since she was declawed, she had to be an inside cat. Fortunately for Lucy, my youngest - a cat lover fanatic - adopted this sweetie and gave her the BEST home. Lucy is spoiled rotten, and she loves to hide in Christmas trees.
Highland Books EventI love speaking events at bookstores, especially independent bookstores which are, unfortunately, becoming a vanishing breed. Tomorrow, I will have the pleasure of sharing the stage with a fellow author, Darryl Bollinger, who writes medical mysteries. I think Darryl and I make a great speaking combo - I write legal thrillers and he writes medical thrillers. Although, to be perfectly honest, the Allison Parker Mysteries are a whole lot more than just a “legal” thriller. We are being hosted by Highland Books in Brevard, North Carolina. The owners of this store are wonderful and are great supporters of local authors. This will be my third or fourth event there, and I am really looking forward to it. If you’re near, I hope to see you there. If you’re too far away to attend, you can find my books on Amazon and at other select independent bookstores.
Highland BooksTwo mystery writers for the price of one! Great time sharing the “podium” with fellow mystery writer Darryl Bollinger. Many thanks to indie bookstore Highland Books in Brevard, NC for hosting.
