Biologically Bankrupt, A MemoirIt’s 2008 and my father has been dead for one year. At the urging of a close friend, I begin to write my story, which is really the story of three generations of my family as much as it is mine. Abuse, dysfunction, pain, sorrow, recovery, reconciliation. It’s all there, a Southern Gothic tale if ever there was one.A year after the book was published, my father visited me. Yep, for real. And he was royally pissed. Too much truth. Too much dirty laundry, too many secrets revealed. He was terrifying and I was terrified. Thank the Lord he hasn’t visited since. Maybe he’s in remedial school awaiting his next incarnation.At any rate, I remain convinced that this was a story I was called to write, more so for others than for myself. All I know is someone will read this story and realize they are not alone.

The essays cover a wide assortment of topics - some serious, some not so much, but all carrying an interesting message for the reader.

Lemuria hosted me in 2011 after I published my memoir, Biologically Bankrupt and again in September 2018. Star Line BooksLocated in my hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Star Line Books is a quaint independent bookstore right across from the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. In April 2019 I had the opportunity to speak there to a packed house. I love these events.

The B BoyThis cuties is my love. Baxter is a rescue, mostly Schnauzer, 100% love muffin. I can’t imagine this life without him, and I’m pretty sure he and I have traveled previous lives together.
On Fire For the LordThis pastel started out as a barn, but it just didn’t sit right with me. I left it on the easel for days, working a bit here, a bit there, but never feeling like I was capturing the visual story that was trying to come out. With my animal pastels I’ve always painted the subject’s aura, so yesterday I thought, “well, let’s try it with this”. After I painted the building’s aura I realized it wasn’t a barn - it was a church. I added the cross, added its aura, and realized immediately what the title of the painting should be.
"Christmas Cat"This is Lucy, my daughter’s rescue cat. Lucy is about 8 years old. Her original owners didn’t want her after the found out they were having a baby so they put Lucy on Craig’s List to get rid of her. Since she was declawed, she had to be an inside cat. Fortunately for Lucy, my youngest - a cat lover fanatic - adopted this sweetie and gave her the BEST home. Lucy is spoiled rotten, and she loves to hide in Christmas trees.
Highland Books EventI love speaking events at bookstores, especially independent bookstores which are, unfortunately, becoming a vanishing breed. Tomorrow, I will have the pleasure of sharing the stage with a fellow author, Darryl Bollinger, who writes medical mysteries. I think Darryl and I make a great speaking combo - I write legal thrillers and he writes medical thrillers. Although, to be perfectly honest, the Allison Parker Mysteries are a whole lot more than just a “legal” thriller. We are being hosted by Highland Books in Brevard, North Carolina. The owners of this store are wonderful and are great supporters of local authors. This will be my third or fourth event there, and I am really looking forward to it. If you’re near, I hope to see you there. If you’re too far away to attend, you can find my books on Amazon and at other select independent bookstores.
